Faheem Akram, 33, was taken into custody on Tuesday, October 20, after Pakistani authorities conducted an extensive search involving multiple raids and digital surveillance. The arrest comes weeks after a federal grand jury in Florida indicted him over an alleged operation involving millions of counterfeit U.S. shipping labels.

According to U.S. prosecutors, Akram operated LabelsBank.com, an unauthorized online platform that allegedly sold more than 5.1 million fraudulent postage labels to over 5,200 customers. The website offered shipping labels for approximately $2 each, regardless of package weight, dimensions or destination. Investigators say the operation allowed customers to ship parcels through the U.S. postal system while paying substantially less than the legitimate postage rates.

HOW $2 SHIPPING LABELS ALLEGEDLY COST USPS MILLIONS

The alleged scheme depended on offering unusually inexpensive postage through a website that had no authorization to distribute USPS products or services. Customers purchasing the labels could reportedly use them to send packages that would ordinarily require significantly higher shipping fees. Federal investigators allege that the practice shifted substantial transportation costs onto the Postal Service while depriving the agency of legitimate revenue.

The financial impact outlined by prosecutors exceeds $126 million. However, that figure represents the government’s estimated losses from unpaid postage and associated shipping costs, not the amount of money collected by the website or earned by the accused. The distinction is central to understanding the case, particularly because millions of labels were allegedly sold at relatively low individual prices.

PAKISTANI INVESTIGATORS TRACE FINANCIAL ACCOUNTS AND DIGITAL RECORDS

Pakistan’s National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency, known as the NCCIA, said Akram’s alleged operation ran from August 2023 through September 2026. Atif Ameer, a senior official with the agency, announced that investigators identified 16 bank accounts associated with the suspected financial network. Those accounts were reportedly held by Akram and several relatives, including his brother, wife, sister and aunt. Their reported connection to accounts does not, by itself, establish that the relatives knowingly participated in criminal activity.

Pakistani authorities also disclosed details about the search that led to the arrest. Investigators formed eight specialized teams, conducted operations at 35 locations and questioned 47 people while examining call records, mobile-device information and surveillance footage. Officials said a focused effort to determine Akram’s whereabouts continued for approximately 10 days before he was detained in Lahore.

FLORIDA FEDERAL INDICTMENT DETAILS TEN CRIMINAL COUNTS

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Florida announced the indictment on September 28, 2026. Akram faces one count of conspiracy to defraud the United States and to produce and sell counterfeit postage, five counts related to making and selling counterfeit postage labels, and four counts of wire fraud. If convicted, the wire-fraud charges each carry a statutory maximum penalty of 20 years in prison, while the conspiracy and counterfeit-postage counts carry maximum penalties of five years per count. Any actual sentence would depend on the applicable law and court proceedings.

The U.S. Postal Inspection Service’s Miami Division investigated the alleged operation. Federal authorities also obtained a court order authorizing the seizure and shutdown of LabelsBank.com, preventing the website from continuing to distribute the disputed shipping labels. The investigation highlights the difficulties of addressing suspected online financial crimes when websites, payment accounts, customers and accused operators are located across international borders.

WILL THE SUSPECT BE EXTRADITED TO THE UNITED STATES?

Despite Akram’s arrest, an important legal question remains unresolved: whether Pakistani authorities will prosecute him domestically or transfer him to the United States to answer the federal charges. No confirmed extradition decision had been announced as of October 21. Investigations in Pakistan remain ongoing, and any transfer would depend on the relevant legal procedures and decisions by the authorities involved.

The case now moves into a potentially complex phase involving financial evidence, international legal cooperation and the unresolved federal prosecution. Akram remains presumed innocent of the U.S. charges unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. The next major development will be whether authorities announce a formal decision about his detention, prosecution or possible transfer to American custody.

LAHORE, PAKISTAN — October 21, 2026.
