GUATEMALA CITY, GUATEMALA — October 23, 2026. A driver escaped without gunshot injuries after an attempted armed robbery turned into a shooting on a busy street in Guatemala City on Friday morning. The incident, which occurred in the Landívar neighborhood of Zone 7, was captured in a video circulated on social media, showing the reported confrontation between motorcycle-riding suspects and a motorist surrounded by traffic.

The shooting occurred near 7th Avenue and 9th Street, between the Landívar and Castillo Lara neighborhoods. According to local news reports, two individuals traveling on a motorcycle approached the vehicle and demanded the driver’s belongings. When the motorist reportedly resisted, one of the suspects opened fire.

VIDEO CAPTURES GUNFIRE DURING ATTEMPTED ROBBERY

Local media outlets that reviewed the circulating video reported that the armed suspect initially fired into the air, apparently attempting to intimidate the driver. Additional shots were then directed toward the vehicle, striking the windows and causing visible damage.

The recording was reportedly made by another motorist traveling through the area. The incident occurred amid congested traffic, with nearby drivers caught close to the confrontation. The suspects reportedly escaped on the motorcycle after the shooting. Authorities have not publicly confirmed whether any belongings were stolen.

DRIVER SURVIVES AFTER BULLETS STRIKE VEHICLE

Emergency calls alerted Guatemala City’s Municipal Fire Department to gunfire in the area. Paramedics arrived and examined the motorist, confirming that he had escaped without gunshot injuries despite the damage to his vehicle.

Local reports differed regarding the driver’s age, but consistently confirmed that he survived. Photographs published by Guatemalan news outlets showed damage to the car’s windows and bodywork. The incident prompted the deployment of emergency responders and police personnel.

GUATEMALAN POLICE RESPOND TO THE SCENE

Officers from Guatemala’s National Civil Police, known as the PNC, arrived to investigate the circumstances of the reported robbery attempt. Municipal traffic authorities also attended the location as emergency personnel assessed the situation.

At the time of the initial reports, police had not announced any arrests or publicly identified the suspects. Investigators are expected to examine available footage and other evidence to determine who participated in the shooting.

SIMILAR SHOOTING REPORTED IN GUATEMALA CITY A WEEK EARLIER

The incident follows another reported attempted robbery involving gunfire in Guatemala City’s Zone 3 on October 16. In that separate case, an armed suspect reportedly fired at a vehicle during an attempted robbery near 7th Avenue and 37th Street. The driver also survived without gunshot injuries.

The incidents have drawn attention to the danger of armed robberies targeting motorists in congested urban traffic. However, there is no confirmed evidence linking the suspects in the October 16 and October 23 cases.

INVESTIGATION CONTINUES AFTER MOTORCYCLE SUSPECTS ESCAPE

The October 23 shooting has raised renewed questions about public safety for motorists traveling through heavily congested streets in the Guatemalan capital. Although the targeted driver escaped serious physical harm, the attack involved gunfire in an area where other vehicles were present.

Police have not announced a confirmed motive beyond the preliminary reports of an attempted robbery, and the identities of those responsible remain unknown. The next development to watch is whether investigators identify the suspects, obtain further evidence from the recording or announce arrests connected to the attack.
