His November 3 victory over Republican Ken Paxton ends a decadeslong Democratic losing streak in the state\u2019s Senate elections and puts his economic proposals in the national spotlight. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The historical milestone requires a distinction. Democrats last won a Texas U.S. Senate election in 1988, when Lloyd Bentsen secured another term. Democratic representation continued into 1993, including Bob Krueger\u2019s appointment. Talarico\u2019s victory therefore ends a 38-year gap between Democratic Senate election wins in Texas. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Talarico, a state legislator and former middle school teacher, campaigned on affordability and economic reform. His \u201cNew American Dream\u201d agenda included childcare, housing construction, medical debt relief and an AI dividend intended to give Americans a financial stake in technological growth. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">His technology platform proposes a tax on profits attributable to artificial intelligence. The resulting revenue would support annual payments to Americans and grants for entrepreneurs. The stated aim is to spread some of the financial gains from AI across the public. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The platform leaves consequential details open, including the tax rate, the size of individual payments and a payment start date. Those decisions would shape how much revenue the proposal could generate and how many people could benefit. Talarico also wants large data centers to cover the infrastructure costs they create, placing responsibility for those expenses on the companies using the resources.
