A court hearing where he is expected to formally enter his guilty plea is scheduled for July 9 in Chicago.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/theinformant.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Copia-de-Copia-de-VERTICAL-32-819x1024.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1413\" style=\"width:591px;height:auto\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-text-color has-alpha-channel-opacity has-background\" style=\"background-color:#ffffff00;color:#ffffff00\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As part of the agreement, Guzm\u00e1n L\u00f3pez, known as &#8220;El Rat\u00f3n,&#8221; may become a protected witness or cooperating informant, providing U.S. prosecutors with intelligence on drug smuggling operations led by his brothers, Iv\u00e1n Archivaldo and Jes\u00fas Alfredo Guzm\u00e1n, collectively known as \u201cLos Chapitos.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He may also be required to share information about other factions of the Sinaloa Cartel, including \u201cLos Mayitos\u201d \u2014 associated with the sons of Ismael \u201cEl Mayo\u201d Zambada \u2014 and rival groups such as the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ovidio Guzm\u00e1n L\u00f3pez, son of imprisoned drug kingpin Joaqu\u00edn \u201cEl Chapo\u201d Guzm\u00e1n, has signed a plea agreement admitting guilt to drug trafficking charges filed by the U.S. Department of Justice, according to the federal court in the Northern District of Illinois.
