PHERICHE, Nepal — November 3, 2026. A deadly helicopter collision in Nepal’s Everest region left a 47-year-old Indian tourist dead and several others injured Tuesday morning after two aircraft collided during landing operations at the Pheriche helipad, a high-altitude location frequently used by tourists and rescue teams traveling near Mount Everest.
TWO HELICOPTERS COLLIDE DURING LANDING OPERATIONS
The accident occurred at approximately 8:11 a.m. local time at the Pheriche helipad in Solukhumbu district, located at an altitude of more than 4,200 meters, or approximately 13,800 feet, above sea level.
According to preliminary reports, a Fishtail Air helicopter carrying passengers and an Air Dynasty helicopter transporting cargo were attempting to land at the same location when their rotor blades collided.
The impact caused extensive damage to both aircraft, prompting an emergency response from aviation personnel and people nearby.
INDIAN TOURIST IDENTIFIED AS VICTIM
Authorities identified the deceased passenger as Vasanth Kumar Balaramudu, a 47-year-old Indian national from Chennai.
Balaramudu was traveling aboard the Fishtail Air helicopter when the collision occurred.
Officials also reported injuries involving other individuals, including a passenger from New Zealand and helicopter crew members.
The exact number of injured people and the severity of their conditions were not immediately established in the preliminary reports.

VIDEO CAPTURES MOMENT OF IMPACT
Video footage circulating online shows two helicopters positioned close to one another on a snow-covered landing area.
The aircraft’s rotor blades appear to make contact, causing a sudden impact as nearby people move away from the helicopters.
Moments later, individuals can be seen approaching the damaged aircraft to assess the situation.
The footage has drawn attention because of the proximity of people to the helicopters during the incident and the hazardous conditions associated with operating aircraft at high altitude.
AVIATION AUTHORITIES INVESTIGATE THE ACCIDENT
Nepal’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAAN) and local police in Solukhumbu confirmed the collision and began gathering information about the circumstances surrounding the accident.
Investigators are expected to examine landing procedures, aircraft positioning, communication between pilots and helipad operations.
Authorities have not yet issued a final determination regarding the cause of the collision.
The two helicopter operators, Fishtail Air and Air Dynasty, are also cooperating with the relevant aviation authorities.
HIGH-ALTITUDE FLIGHTS PRESENT UNIQUE CHALLENGES
Pheriche is located along a major trekking route toward Everest Base Camp and serves as an important transportation point for visitors, climbers and emergency evacuation operations.
Helicopter services are frequently used in the region because of its remote mountainous terrain and limited road access.
Flying at elevations above 4,000 meters presents operational challenges, including reduced air density, rapidly changing weather and restricted landing areas.
However, investigators have not established whether any of these factors contributed to Tuesday’s collision.
TOURISM AND AVIATION SAFETY IN NEPAL
Nepal’s mountain tourism industry relies heavily on helicopters to transport passengers, supplies and emergency medical personnel across difficult terrain.
The country’s aviation sector has faced longstanding safety concerns, particularly regarding operations in mountainous regions where weather and geography can complicate flight procedures.
The latest incident has renewed attention to safety practices at remote helipads used by multiple aircraft.
AUTHORITIES CONTINUE INVESTIGATION
Police and aviation officials are working to establish the sequence of events leading to the collision, including the positioning of both helicopters immediately before the impact.
Further information is expected regarding the injured passengers and crew, as well as the extent of damage to the aircraft.
The accident has left a tourist dead and raised questions about operational safety at one of Nepal’s most prominent high-altitude aviation destinations.
