MOTHER OF TWO DIES AFTER SEVENTH-FLOOR HOTEL WINDOW GIVES WAY IN BRAZIL

SÃO LUÍS, BRAZIL — November 5, 2026. A 26-year-old mother of two died after falling from the seventh floor of the Rio Poty Hotel in São Luís, in Brazil’s Maranhão state, when a corridor window reportedly gave way as she leaned against it. The incident occurred during the early hours of November 3 and was captured by the hotel’s security cameras, according to local reporting.

SECURITY FOOTAGE CAPTURES MOMENTS BEFORE FALL

The victim was identified as Renata Rebeca Negrão Saldanha dos Santos.

According to reports describing the hotel’s surveillance footage, Renata and her boyfriend were standing in a seventh-floor corridor at approximately 1:30 a.m. while attempting to locate their room key.

Renata reportedly leaned against a window with an aluminum frame.

Moments later, the frame detached, causing her to fall from the building.

The circumstances surrounding the window’s failure remain under investigation.

BOYFRIEND SEEN SITTING AFTER INCIDENT

Renata’s boyfriend, Leonardo Augusto Pinto França, was reportedly standing near her when the accident occurred.

The security footage has been described as showing him sitting on the corridor floor immediately afterward, apparently stunned by what had happened.

His visible reaction should not be treated as a medical diagnosis or proof of his emotional state.

Police have reportedly found no indication that he pushed or assaulted Renata, although the investigation into the incident continues.

COUPLE HAD TRAVELED FOR POKER TOURNAMENT

According to the account provided to investigators, the couple had traveled to São Luís to attend a poker tournament.

Leonardo reportedly told police that both had consumed alcohol earlier in the evening.

However, alcohol consumption alone does not establish the cause of the fall or explain why the window frame detached.

Investigators are examining the physical circumstances of the incident, including the condition of the window and its installation.

INVESTIGATION FOCUSES ON POSSIBLE STRUCTURAL FAILURE

Authorities are expected to examine the window frame, its attachment points and the surrounding building structure to determine why it failed.

The investigation may also consider maintenance records, previous complaints and compliance with applicable building safety standards.

At this stage, no final engineering assessment or determination of responsibility has been independently confirmed.

FAMILY MOURNS YOUNG MOTHER

Renata was the mother of two children.

Her death has prompted grief among relatives and concern over the safety of windows and protective barriers in multi-story buildings.

The case has also attracted attention because surveillance footage reportedly captured the incident.

QUESTIONS REMAIN OVER HOTEL SAFETY

The circumstances raise questions about the maintenance and structural integrity of hotel windows in areas accessible to guests.

Investigators must determine whether the frame failed because of defective installation, deterioration, inadequate maintenance or another factor.

Until those findings are released, assigning responsibility to the hotel, its staff or other individuals would be premature.

The investigation remains ongoing.
