The companies say customer funds remain secure, while some cryptocurrency transfers are suspended or delayed.
Customers trying to move cryptocurrency through Nubank and Mercado Pago faced restrictions Friday after the companies reported problems involving outside service providers. The interruptions affected transfers, while other cryptocurrency services continued operating, according to their statements reported by Reuters.
Nubank temporarily suspended cryptocurrency deposits and withdrawals. The Brazilian digital lender attributed the disruption to an external data provider and said it was working with the supplier to restore the affected services.
Mercado Pago, the financial services business of MercadoLibre, described an incident involving a provider responsible for risk monitoring and anti-money-laundering services. It blocked some transfers to external wallets as a precaution and warned that incoming deposits could take longer to be credited.
Both companies said customers’ funds remained secure. Mercado Pago also said cryptocurrency purchases and sales were operating normally, meaning the transfer restrictions did not amount to a shutdown of its entire crypto offering.
The companies did not name the affected providers, leaving it unclear whether the two disruptions shared a common source. The available statements did not establish that either platform had suffered a theft of customer cryptocurrency.
No firm restoration deadline was provided in the reports reviewed. Nubank said the suspended functions would return once its provider’s service was restored, while Mercado Pago said it would notify users when operations normalized.
