VALTTERI BOTTAS DEFENDS CADILLAC F1 SEAT AS 2027 DRIVER LINEUP FACES UNCERTAINTY

AUSTIN, TEXAS — October 27, 2026. Valtteri Bottas insists his future with Cadillac Formula 1 remains on track despite growing speculation that the American team could change its driver lineup for 2027. The Finnish veteran says his contract is in order and that management remains satisfied with his contribution, even as questions surrounding his recent performances and the availability of other experienced drivers have intensified.

The uncertainty follows a difficult United States Grand Prix weekend for Cadillac, which is still searching for its first championship points in its debut season. Although Bottas remains confident about his position, team principal Marcin Budkowski has avoided publicly guaranteeing that the current pairing of Bottas and Sergio Pérez will continue next year. More significantly, Cadillac CEO Dan Towriss has acknowledged that the team is evaluating the Finn’s recent race pace.

BOTTAS INSISTS HIS 2027 CADILLAC CONTRACT REMAINS VALID

Speaking to Motorsport.com after the United States Grand Prix, Bottas rejected suggestions that he had received troubling news about his future. The 10-time Grand Prix winner explained that he understood the terms of the multiyear agreement he signed before Cadillac’s 2026 debut and had received reassurance about his position for the following season.

The 37-year-old also acknowledged the unpredictable nature of Formula 1, where contractual arrangements do not always guarantee a driver will remain in a race seat. Nevertheless, he indicated that the team appears pleased with his work and that he has no immediate reason to believe his position is in danger.

CADILLAC MANAGEMENT REFUSES TO RULE OUT DRIVER CHANGES

Speculation increased when team principal Marcin Budkowski addressed the media during the October 23 press conference in Austin. Asked whether Bottas and Pérez had confirmed contracts for 2027, Budkowski declined to discuss their contractual situations and said official announcements would come from the team at the appropriate time.

Cadillac CEO Dan Towriss subsequently provided additional context. Speaking to RACER, Towriss confirmed that both drivers remain under contract but acknowledged concerns about Bottas’ pace in several recent races. He also suggested the team could provide greater clarity about its driver plans in the coming weeks. Those statements leave open the possibility of a lineup change, but they do not establish that Cadillac has decided to replace Bottas.

COLTON HERTA, YUKI TSUNODA AND ESTEBAN OCON LINKED TO CADILLAC

Several drivers have appeared in reports about Cadillac’s 2027 options. American driver Colton Herta has attracted particular attention because of the team’s long-standing interest in eventually fielding a U.S. driver. Herta, who moved from IndyCar to Formula 2 for 2026, is also participating in Formula 1 practice sessions as he works toward meeting the superlicence requirements.

Towriss has acknowledged that Herta remains a possible candidate for a future race seat. Yuki Tsunoda, currently associated with Red Bull in a reserve role, has also been linked to Cadillac. Esteban Ocon, meanwhile, is searching for opportunities after losing his Haas race seat for 2027 to Formula 2 championship leader Rafael Câmara. Reports suggest Ocon could pursue a reserve position elsewhere, potentially with Aston Martin, rather than join Cadillac. None of these scenarios has been announced as a completed agreement.

UNITED STATES GRAND PRIX ADDS TO CADILLAC’S DIFFICULT SEASON

Cadillac’s inaugural Formula 1 campaign has been challenging, with the American team failing to score a championship point through the first 18 Grands Prix. The October 25 race at the Circuit of The Americas provided another difficult outcome: Pérez finished 19th, while Bottas retired after completing 48 laps.

According to Cadillac’s post-race statements, Bottas encountered a sudden suspected power-unit problem that forced him to stop. The team acknowledged that the issue required further investigation, while both drivers identified some encouraging signs in the car’s race pace. Budkowski said the organization had improved its trackside operations but still needed more speed to challenge its nearest competitors.

CADILLAC FACES A KEY DECISION AHEAD OF THE 2027 SEASON

The team’s dilemma extends beyond immediate race results. Bottas and Pérez were recruited to provide experience and technical feedback as Cadillac established itself in Formula 1. Replacing either driver would require the organization to balance development continuity against the potential advantages of introducing a different competitor.

The availability of Herta adds another dimension to that decision, particularly given Cadillac’s American identity and ambitions. However, any change involving Bottas would also require the team to address the terms of his existing agreement.

For now, Bottas remains part of Cadillac’s racing lineup, and team management has not confirmed a replacement. The next major development will be an official statement clarifying the 2027 driver situation. Until then, his confidence in the contract and the team’s willingness to consider alternatives will continue to fuel speculation throughout the Formula 1 paddock.
