SERGIO CHECO PÉREZ SIGNS CADILLAC F1 CONTRACT EXTENSION THROUGH AT LEAST 2029

MEXICO CITY — October 28, 2026. Sergio “Checo” Pérez has secured his future in Formula 1 with a new multiyear contract that will keep him racing for Cadillac through at least the 2029 season. The agreement, announced Wednesday ahead of the Mexico City Grand Prix, represents a major commitment by the American team to the Mexican veteran as it continues building its Formula 1 operation from the ground up.

The announcement comes during a particularly meaningful week for Pérez. The 36-year-old driver is preparing to celebrate his 300th Formula 1 Grand Prix start on home soil while participating in a special public exhibition on Mexico City’s Paseo de la Reforma. For a driver who spent the entire 2025 season away from the championship, the new contract marks another major chapter in a career that has already included six victories and 39 podium finishes.

CADILLAC CONFIRMS CHECO PÉREZ WILL REMAIN THROUGH 2029

Cadillac confirmed the extension after reaching a new agreement with Pérez, who originally joined the organization ahead of its inaugural 2026 Formula 1 campaign. The contract secures his participation through at least the end of 2029, providing continuity as the General Motors-backed project works to establish itself among the championship’s established competitors.

Pérez welcomed the extension as a continuation of a project he supported from its earliest stages. He acknowledged that creating a competitive Formula 1 team requires patience, extensive development and collective effort, while reaffirming his commitment to improving Cadillac’s performance.

The Mexican driver also expressed gratitude to team CEO Dan Towriss, General Motors President Mark Reuss, TWG Motorsports and the personnel working across Cadillac’s facilities in the United States and United Kingdom.

CADILLAC SEES PÉREZ AS A KEY PART OF ITS LONG-TERM FUTURE

The decision reflects Cadillac’s confidence in Pérez’s experience, technical knowledge and leadership. Towriss emphasized the importance of keeping a proven Grand Prix winner involved as the team enters the next stage of its development.

Although Cadillac has yet to score a championship point during its debut season, its management believes Pérez’s feedback and ability to extract performance from the car have contributed to the team’s progress. His experience with Sauber, McLaren, Force India, Racing Point and Red Bull provides technical knowledge that could prove valuable as Cadillac continues developing its racing infrastructure.

The new agreement also brings additional stability to one side of the team’s driver lineup. Valtteri Bottas currently races alongside Pérez, but questions remain about the Finn’s longer-term position. Cadillac has not announced a replacement or a definitive change involving Bottas.

CHECO PÉREZ PREPARES FOR HIS 300TH FORMULA 1 GRAND PRIX

The contract announcement coincides with one of the biggest milestones of Pérez’s racing career. This weekend’s Mexico City Grand Prix is expected to mark his 300th Formula 1 start, making him one of only seven drivers in championship history to reach that achievement.

Pérez made his Formula 1 debut with Sauber in 2011 and developed into one of the sport’s most experienced competitors. His first Grand Prix victory came at the 2020 Sakhir Grand Prix with Racing Point, followed by five additional wins during his time with Red Bull Racing.

He also finished second in the 2023 Drivers’ World Championship, his highest career championship position. After leaving Red Bull at the end of 2024 and spending 2025 away from competition, Pérez returned with Cadillac in 2026.

MEXICO CITY SHOW RUN BRINGS CADILLAC TO PASEO DE LA REFORMA

Before the race weekend begins, Pérez is scheduled to take part in a special Formula 1 demonstration along Paseo de la Reforma on Wednesday, October 28, beginning at 10 a.m. local time.

Organized by Cadillac Formula 1 Team and the Mexico City Grand Prix promoters, with support from the city government, the event gives Mexican fans an opportunity to see the driver and a Formula 1 car outside the racetrack.

The demonstration also represents Cadillac’s first public Formula 1 appearance on Mexican soil. For Pérez, the event is intended to celebrate his return to a home Grand Prix after missing the 2025 edition.

MEXICO CITY GRAND PRIX SET FOR NOVEMBER 1

The Mexican Grand Prix takes place at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez from October 30 through November 1. Pérez is expected to make his 300th career start when the race begins Sunday at 2 p.m. local time.

The celebration will be particularly significant for Mexican fans who have followed Pérez’s journey from his early years in Formula 1 through his Grand Prix victories, departure from Red Bull and return with Cadillac.

While the American team faces a long development process before challenging the championship’s leading competitors, Pérez’s new agreement provides a clear commitment to that journey. The next challenge is translating his experience and Cadillac’s investment into improved results on the racetrack. For now, the six-time Grand Prix winner has secured something important: a confirmed place in Formula 1 through at least 2029.
